Senior R&D Scientist (m/f/d)
Who are we
BioTreasure is an integrated biology and chemistry manufacturing platform designed to produce bio-based chemicals at industrial scale. Funded by SPRIND and developed in collaboration with Insempra, it combines circular continuous fermentation with proprietary downstream chemistry to enable flexible, local production, delivering performance, cost efficiency, and scalability from day one.
We offer:
- Join an early-stage startup creating real impact for the environment and society, where ideas truly matter
- Be an early hire in the team, with real ownership and hands-on involvement in building, shaping, and scaling the company from day one
- Gain real-world hands-on experience with access to a fully equipped lab, cutting-edge technology, and significant room for personal and professional growth
- Work within an international, fast-moving team with an open feedback culture, flat hierarchies, rapid decision-making, and English as a working language
For this position you will perform the following duties:
- Engineer microbial strains to produce bio-based platform molecules at industrial scale
- Optimize pathways using metabolic models and input data from enzyme activity and strain screening assays, -Omics analysis and fermentation processes
- Construct designed strains using standard molecular cloning techniques
- Cultivate and evaluate constructed strains using small-scale (plate and flask-scale) cultivations and assays
- Literature search/scouting for innovative approaches that could be implemented
- Analysis of results and planning of the new experiments in the systems biology cycle of design-build-test-learn
- Collaborate with internal and external partners, reliably document and store data and results and clearly communicate updates
Your profile:
- Ph.D. in Metabolic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular or Synthetic Biology or related field and a minimum of 2 years of industry experience
- Strong hands-on experience in metabolic engineering or strain engineering of non-model yeast including a thorough understanding of yeast metabolism, molecular biology and synthetic biology
- Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills and ability to work flexibly in a dynamic startup setting
- Willing to roll up sleeves and contribute hands-on across strain and process development, and documentation
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills are important as we are a small team and will be working closely together daily
- Preferred: Experience with the use of metabolic models and bioinformatic tools for sequence optimization
