Process Engineer (m/f/d)

BioTreasure is an integrated biology and chemistry manufacturing platform for bio-based chemicals at industrial scale. Funded by SPRIND and developed in collaboration with Insempra, it combines circular continuous fermentation with proprietary downstream chemistry to enable flexible, local production, delivering cost efficiency, performance, and scalability from day one.

For this position you will perform the following duties:

• Operate, monitor, and maintain lab-scale fermentation systems (shake flasks, bench bioreactors)
• Run controlled fermentation experiments to improve yield, productivity, or robustness and collect samples and measure key process parameters (growth, pH, dissolved oxygen, etc.)
• Prepare and sterilize media, reagents, and inoculum for fermentation runs
• Troubleshoot fermentation issues and suggest process improvements
• Participate in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to inform next steps
• Maintain accurate records, digital lab notebooks, and experimental logs
• Prepare basic summaries and reports of fermentation runs and outcomes and present to the team
• Follow safety, quality, and documentation standards (SOPs, SHE, GMP where applicable)
• Collaborate with colleagues fromR&D, QA/QC, and manufacturing teams and support technology transfer for scale-up activities

Your profile:

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related field
• Hands-on experience with bioprocesses, upstream/downstream operations, or production in a biotech or pharma-setting
• Knowledge of GMP, SOPs, and quality regulations is a plus
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Excellent teamwork and communication abilities
• Proactive, flexible, and able to thrive in a startup environment

• Location: München/Martinsried(IZB Campus), approx. 30 minutes from Munich Central Station
• Employment time: Fulltime (40h/week)
