Master thesis in industrial biotechnology

Who are we

As a biotechnology company, we at Insempra don’t just hope for a better future, we actively work for it!
For way too long, companies have relied on chemical production processes, depleting our planet’s limited resources. That’s why we are on a mission to create a world with naturally high-quality products, resulting in a balance between humans and our planet.
On the way to a better world, we are currently accompanied by a team of more than 40 passionate scientists, entrepreneurs and visionaries with rebel hearts – but we are still missing one important person: you!

For our office directly at the IZB Campus in Munich/Martinsried we are looking for a master’s student (m/f/d) to pursue their thesis research at Insempra on the topic of genetic engineering and fermentation of microbial strains for high-value products, starting from 1st of March 2026. Does this sound like your next step?

We offer:

  • Practical real-world experience and the opportunity to collaborate with a team of experts in strain engineering who are dedicated to supporting you in your project
  • Access to a fully-equipped lab and cutting edge technology
  • An international team passionate about sustainability; English as a working language
  • In addition to your compensation you will receive a voucher in the amount of 50 €/month

For this position you will perform the following duties:

  • Cloning of DNA constructs and engineering of microbial strains as industrially relevant production hosts
  • Cultivation and characterization of strains
  • Media optimization and process development for high-yield fermentation of value-added products
  • Documentation of experiments in the ELN
  • Reporting and presenting the findings at internal meetings and in your master’s thesis

Your profile:

  • Currently enrolled at a university and pursuing a Master’s degree in biotechnology, metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, (bio-)chemical engineering or related field
  • Experience in wet lab work, ideally in microbiology, genetics, biotechnology and strain engineering
  • Highly motivated, organized and structured work
  • Interest in industrial biotechnology
