Job Description:
Chemify is expanding its Engineering Operations team to support the development, commissioning, and maintenance of robotic chemistry platforms across our Chemifarms in Glasgow and beyond. This lab-based role, reporting to the Engineering Operations Manager, involves close collaboration with software engineers, chemists, and automation specialists.
We welcome candidates with a broad range of experience; the appointment level will reflect the successful applicant’s background. We’re looking for someone enthusiastic, service-minded, and eager to help build world-leading high-throughput chemistry infrastructure.
Occasional travel may be required. This role requires an early/late 2 shift pattern.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
· Commission and integrate new robotic hardware into production.
· Develop and optimise automated synthesis workflows.
· Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on chemistry platforms and lab instruments.
· Use MaintainX to log faults, schedule work, and track asset health.
· Create and contribute to Engineering Operations SOPs.
Operational & Cross-Functional
· Ensure consistent maintenance standards across Chemify sites.
· Collaborate with chemists, automation engineers, software developers, and manufacturing teams.
· Identify opportunities to improve workflows, platform reliability, and uptime.
· Support service delivery by minimising downtime and improving response times.
· Contribute to wider company initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
· NVQ/SVQ Level 3–4 with 2+ years post-apprenticeship experience or BSc/equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical/electrical engineering, or robotics.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
· Problem-solving attitude and willingness to learn.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have experience in at least one of:
· Organic chemistry or synthetic lab work.
· Maintenance of scientific/industrial instrumentation.
· Robotics (mechanical, fluidic, pneumatic, or electromechanical).
· Test and validation programme execution.
Desired Skills & Attributes
· Troubleshooting of automated or robotic systems.
· Knowledge of lab safety and documentation best practices.
· Ability to work to performance targets.
· Customer-service mindset with a proactive approach.
· Interest in automation technologies and continuous improvement.
